We are thrilled to announce that Brays School will be participating in UK Parliament Week (UKPW) this year from 18th – 22nd November! This exciting initiative is part of our commitment to amplifying pupil voice and empowering our students to make a meaningful impact within our school community.
Building the Brays School Parliament
As part of our school improvement priority to improve opportunities for pupil voice, we are taking a big step forward by building on our existing School Council. During UK Parliament Week, we will democratically elect class representatives to form the very first Brays School Parliament. This hands-on experience in democracy will help our pupils understand decision-making, representation, and the importance of their voices in shaping our school environment.
The Power of Democracy in Action
Our children will actively participate in the voting process, gaining a real-world understanding of democracy. Once elected, the newly appointed Brays School MPs will attend their first official meeting with a very special guest – Jess Phillips, our local MP. This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to meet a real Member of Parliament, ask questions, and learn more about how government and politics work at a national level.
Inspired by Elections Near and Far
In the lead-up to UK Parliament Week, some of our classes have taken an interest in the American elections, sparking curiosity and insightful discussions about democracy around the world. This has been a wonderful way to introduce global perspectives on governance and decision-making, enriching our pupils’ understanding of civic processes.
Why UK Parliament Week Matters
UK Parliament Week is an annual event that celebrates and educates people about the work and importance of the UK Parliament. It’s an opportunity for our pupils to learn more about how decisions are made that affect their lives, and how they can take action to influence change.
Last year, over 1.6 million people across the UK and beyond took part in UKPW, and we are excited to join this movement for the very first time!
We can’t wait to see the impact this initiative will have on our children, and we look forward to sharing their experiences and achievements with you.
Stay tuned for updates and don’t forget to follow our journey during UK Parliament Week!
