Over the past year, our pupils have embraced sustainability in exciting and meaningful ways. From recycling waste to producing energy, to growing their own food, their passion for protecting the planet shines through in every project they undertake.
Some of our key initiatives include:
🌍 Taking Climate Action to a Global Stage
Brays School was proudly represented in the All Together Now for Planet Earth music video, an international project by YESfest that brought together young voices from around the world. Two of our students were part of this inspiring movement, using music to encourage global environmental action.
♻️ Recycling That Makes a Real Impact
- Our food waste recycling system converts waste into biogas, reducing landfill waste and lowering our carbon footprint.
- We have set up two community recycling stations, making it easier for families to recycle clothing and support the circular economy.
- Our school parliament representatives were elected on a promise to improve recycling, demonstrating how student leadership can drive real change.
🍳 Sustainable Food & Farming
- Our school is home to chickens, allowing pupils to learn about ethical food production and sustainability.
- Through our year-long partnership with Gardening Gurus, students are learning to grow their own food, developing essential skills in sustainable agriculture.
💡 Energy Conservation & Cleaner Air
- Working with Energy Sparks, our students conducted a thermal energy audit of the school, identifying areas where we can reduce energy loss and improve efficiency.
- We are partnering with Birmingham City Council to install an air quality monitor, helping us track pollution levels and promote cleaner air for our community.
🗑️ Cleaning Up Our Community
- In collaboration with WISE, our students took part in a community litter pick, ensuring that all recyclable waste was sorted and properly processed.
