Remote Education Offer at Brays Special School

At Brays Special School, we are dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to high-quality education, regardless of whether they are learning in school or remotely. Our remote education offer is designed to be inclusive and tailored to meet the diverse needs of our children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Situations Requiring Remote Education

  1. Pandemic or Health Crisis:
    • During outbreaks of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19), schools may need to close temporarily or limit in-person attendance to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  2. Self-Isolation:
    • If a child is required to self-isolate due to exposure to a contagious illness, remote education allows them to continue learning while at home.
  3. School Closure:
    • In cases of severe weather, natural disasters, or other emergencies that necessitate the temporary closure of the school, remote education can ensure continuity of learning.
  4. Individual Health Needs:
    • Children with chronic health conditions or disabilities that prevent them from attending school regularly may benefit from a remote education offer tailored to their specific needs.
  5. Exclusions or Suspensions:
    • If a child is temporarily excluded from school, remote education should be provided to ensure they continue their learning during their exclusion period.

Key Components of Our Remote Education Offer:

  1. Access to Learning:
    • All children will receive access to a range of online learning resources and materials that are appropriate for their individual needs and learning goals.
    • We utilise various platforms including Microsoft Teams and DoJo to facilitate remote learning and communication.
  2. Curriculum Delivery:
    • Our remote education will follow the same curriculum as in-school learning, adapted to ensure accessibility for all children.
    • Lessons will include a mix of live teaching, recorded sessions, and independent tasks to provide a balanced approach.
  3. Support and Engagement:
    • Teachers will provide regular feedback and support to children through online platforms.
    • We will offer virtual check-ins and one-to-one support sessions to ensure that children remain engaged and supported in their learning.
  4. Communication with Parents:
    • We will maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to provide updates on their child’s progress and any necessary adjustments to the remote education plan.
    • Parents will receive guidance on how to support their child’s learning at home.
  5. Monitoring and Assessment:
    • We will monitor the engagement and progress of all children participating in remote education.
    • Assessments will be adapted to suit the remote learning context, ensuring that we can accurately gauge each child’s understanding and progress.
  6. Safeguarding:
    • We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our children during remote learning. All online interactions will be conducted in a safe and secure manner, adhering to our safeguarding policies.

For many of our children, sensory stories are a fantastic way for families to share stories. These can be done at home with whatever materials you have around the house. For advice and guidance, a great website to use is www.bagbooks.org .
