Headteacher: Kari Anson
Meet our experienced Headteacher, Kari. With a background in psychology and primary education, Kari brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Brays school. With over 10 years of experience in SEN leadership, Kari has worked in a variety of schools across the country, cultivating a deep understanding of inclusive practices. Passionate about creating an environment where every child can thrive, Kari’s innovative and compassionate leadership ensures that our school is a place where all students can reach their full potential.
Chair Jane Davenport (Trust Appointed)
Jane is an established headteacher with 20 years’ experience. Jane was the Interim Head at Brays for four months and is also a experienced union rep for NAHT.
Sean McLoughlin (Trust Appointed)
Sean has worked in a range of sectors as a Teacher, Safeguarding Leader and Investigator. He has also previously led youth groups and cadets in the local area and looks forward to supporting the school in their incredible work.
Katie Ashe (Trust Appointed)
Katie comes with over 15 years of experience working in a variety of special needs schools both as a teaching assistant and then later as a tutor and teacher. She is now a full-time foster parent to two children with disabilities, one of whom attends Brays school. Katie is hoping that her SEN experience and knowledge as well as the perspective gained as a parent will enable her to contribute to the development of Brays School and help in the celebration of its successes.
Paul Fowler (Trust Appointed)
Paul is a foster parent to two children, one of whom attends Brays School. He is very excited about learning more about the school’s working practices and about contributing a carer and child in care perspective to Local Academy discussions.
He is an experienced foster carer who has looked after a variety of children with different emotional and physical needs from across Birmingham. Paul is looking forward to supporting the school and the excellent work it is doing with its pupils.
Throughout most of his adult life, Paul has worked with the general public in both the retail and transport industries. He believes that the interpersonal skills he has developed over many years will enable him to make a valuable contribution to this role.
Rachel Crofts (Parent Representative)
Rachel brings personal experience as a parent of two children with special educational needs, giving her a strong understanding of the challenges families face and the importance of feeling heard and supported. Through attending local children’s groups, visiting Sense with her children, and drawing on her previous work in a nursery, she has developed patience, strong communication skills, and the ability to connect with and support other parents.
Rachel chose to become a LAC Parent Representative because she is passionate about representing families, strengthening the link between parents and the school, and helping to ensure that every child receives the support they need.
